Why your EA needs a VPS
An Expert Advisor only trades while MetaTrader 5 is open and connected. Running it on a home laptop works until the Wi-Fi drops, Windows restarts for an update, or the lid gets closed. A VPS fixes that.
What a VPS is
A Virtual Private Server is a Windows computer in a data centre that stays on 24 hours a day. You log in with Remote Desktop, run MT5 there, and close the window — MT5 keeps running.
Why it matters for an EA
- Uptime. Data centres have backup power and network, so the EA does not miss trades.
- Latency. A VPS close to your broker’s server (often London or New York) gets orders filled faster, which matters at session opens.
- Separation. Your trading is not affected by what you do on your own computer.
Choosing one
Two to four gigabytes of RAM is enough for one or two MT5 terminals. Pick the location nearest your broker’s trade server, and make sure Windows updates are scheduled so they do not restart MT5 during market hours.
Every TechVista license includes setup of MT5 and the EA on your VPS by our team.
